More Information
This tutorial covers the subject of cutting out an
object from a fussy background with the polygonal lasso tool and then making that
object into something special. We also introduce you to layers and explain simply
how they work
This video
runs for 24 minutes and will be great for those who have some difficulty
cutting out tricky subjects and it is also perfect as a layers introduction. The
techniques we use here are simple yet effective and the end result speaks for
itself. Cutting out tricky subjects is one of those problems that haunts many
digital photographers, but it's not difficult once you know the tricks to this
and learn how. We use the polygonal selection tool, which
is an odd choice seeing at that selection tool only makes selections in straight
lines.
We don't let a straight line selection tool
stop us and we use the polygonal lasso tool to cut around curves easily. Then,
once we have our object cut out we turn to our layers palette to make an image
with impact.
You can download a slide show demo of
what we will achieve in this tutorial and see the end result before you buy.

Take a look at the starting
image below. As you can see the soldier is well locked into the background, but
we can coax him away from that fussy backdrop.

The
image we create below is called "Drummed Out" However, it's not this
particular image that is important. The important thing we need to keep in mind
is the techniques which we can apply in other images and in other ways.
