More Information
This tutorial covers the subject of correcting converging
verticals
Converging verticals is
the distortion we see in our pictures when we use a wide angle lens and tilt
the camera upwards to capture our subject. It most obviously shows itself
when we photograph buildings because we can rarely get far enough away to
be able to keep the camera level.
This distortion
is generally something we would rather not have in our pictures, but sometimes
it can be used to our advantage for creative effect. Here though we are going
to remove it and show you how powerful the tools are within Photoshop to correct
the problem. We also introduce you to Photoshop's rulers and guides in this
tutorial, along with layers and transform tools.
If
you look at our starting image below you can see just what we mean when we
speak of converging verticals.

However,
the tools of Photoshop allow us to correct this. Take a look at other examples
below as this first example is rather extreme and probably not typical of
the sort of thing we would need to correct.

If
you look carefully at the starting image below you will see that we do not
have any good upright or horizontal lines in this image.

However,
after a little work in Photoshop we can correct them all and the end result
is a far better picture.
